Getting to Karlovy Vary Airport

Getting to Karlovy Vary Airport

Karlovy Vary Airport (KLV) currently offers two scheduled flight routes, both to Moscow. Czech Airlines flies from Karlovy Vary to Moscow-Sheremetyevo (SVO), while the second route to Moscow-Vnukovo Airport (VKO) is operated by the low-cost carrier Pobeda.

The low traffic directly results in limited public transportation options between the city and its airport. For transfers from downtown to the airport, take the no. 8 bus, which departs from the Třžnice (Market) interchange in the wider city center. The journey to the airport takes just shy of 30 minutes. A one-way fare will cost you CZK 18 for a ticket bought in advance, or CZK 25 when buying from the bus driver.

Only Seven Buses per Day, With Extra Services for Pobeda Flights

We highly recommended planning your transfers carefully, as there are only 7 services per day in each direction, from 7.00 to 20.00 (8pm), running roughly every 2 hours. As of March 26, 2018, however, new direct services were added to no. 8 route. These buses are synchronized to the departures and arrivals of Pobeda flights to/from Moscow Vnukovo. Direct bus travel time is around 15 minutes.

Getting to KLV from Other Cities

If traveling from Prague to Karlovy Vary, long-distance coaches offer the most value in terms of money and time. Flixbus services make the trip in 2 hours and 10 minutes, fares start at CZK 79; RegioJet buses take 2 hours and 15 minutes, with fares from CZK 129. When traveling from Pilsen, take a regional bus (operated by ČSAD autobusy Plzeň and other carriers), whose tickets are available from the driver or via the AMSBus sales platform.

Most coaches terminate at the Karlovy Vary Transit Terminal, which is just 10-minute walk away from the Tržnice bus stop (map). Flixbus and RegioJet buses from Prague also call directly at Tržnice as their penultimate stop.

While trains are viable way to travel to Karlovy Vary from both Prague and Pilsen, journey times are usually significantly longer due to a somewhat roundabout route compared to buses.
