Getting to Ostrava Airport
Ostrava International Airport is named for the Czech music composer Leoš Janáček and currently offers scheduled flights to Prague (ČSA), London (Ryanair), Milan (Ryanair) and Dubai (SmartWings). In the summer season, it is also possible to buy individual tickets for charter flights to favorite holiday destinations operated by SmartWings/Travel Service. The airport is located about 25 km from Ostrava and it takes about 30 minutes to drive there from the city center. One interesting fact: Ostrava Airport has been the first Czech airport tp be connected to the railway network, you can walk to the train platform straight form the adjacent terminal building.
To the airport by train…
The airport can be reached by regional trains operated by Czech Railways (ČD). The train will take you to the airport from Ostrava Central Station (Ostrava hlavní nádraží) in 31 minutes and the ticket will cost you CZK 52 (EUR 2). Buy your ticket beforehand – online, via the mobile app (Můj vlak, available for iOS and Android) or at the ticket office. If you buy your ticket on board, you’ll pay an additional fee of CZK 40 (EUR 1.60).
…or by regional bus
Regional buses are operated by Arriva Morava. Buses on the 910333 line depart from Ostrava, ÚAN (Ostrava Central Bus Station) and also call at the city districts of Vítkovice, Hrabůvka and Dubina. Buy a ticket to Mošnov, Airport, which is the final stop of the route.
For customers who fly into Ostrava Airport, these regional buses offer a huge advantage: they wait for delayed flights.
- For Milan flights, the bus will wait up to 60 minutes, and then depart 30 minutes after the actual arrival (to give sufficient time for baggage claim etc.).
- For London flights, the bus will wait up to 60 minutes, then depart 45 minutes after the actual arrival (passport check, baggage claim etc.).
Travel time from Ostrava to the airport is around 45 minutes and you pay CZK 36–41, depending on the exact route. It is great that you can also pay using contactless credit cards on the bus.
Regional bus route no. 880670 (Ostrava – Nový Jičín) provides an alternate connection to the airport, though these buses call at a different stop named Mošnov, Airport nádraží (about 100 meters from the terminal).
TIP: Bus waiting for a delayed flight really works! Our travel expert Aleš arrived from London on a Ryanair flight, which was delayed more than an hour. Even so, the bus waited and the driver even went into the terminal to make sure that there were no customers left at baggage claim or immigration left behind.
